Hoop it Up! Basketball Returns to Aquinas Hall on November 15

The St. Thomas Aquinas College basketball teams return to the friendly confines of Aquinas Hall for their 2011-12 home openers on Tuesday, November 15. Nyack College provides the opposition, with the Lady Spartans tipping off at 5:30, followed by the men at 7:30. Watch all the action LIVE, here.

STAC's Women's Basketball squad will be looking to rebound from a tough weekend in Philadelphia, which saw the Lady Spartans absorb a pair of losses to start the campaign. The team is led by 2010-11 East Coast Conference Co-Player of the Year Briana Sloper, and conference Defensive Player of the Year Bianca Kowgios, directed by ECC Coach-of-the-Year Kim Lusk. STAC has been picked to finish first in the East Coast Conference in the preseason poll of coaches. The game will be the first for the Warriors women's team, which finished 10-17 a year ago.

The men's team gets to break the seal on a brand new season, as the visitors from nearby Nyack will provide opposition for the Spartans' first two contests. The teams will meet again just three nights later, on Friday, November 18, in the first round of the Dominican College tournament in Orangeburg, NY. Second Team ECC All-Conference selection Justin Brown will lead a group of 10 returnees and six promising newcomers as Coach Dennis O'Donnell's crew looks to be one of the surprise squads in the East Coast Conference this season. The Warriors men's team dropped a pair to open the season at the Pace University Tournament this past weekend, falling to the hosts as well as to Assumption College.

The Opening Night twin-bill will be the first of 23 basketball home contests slated to be broadcast live on New Media Television Sports. If you can't be on hand to support the teams in person at Aquinas Hall, you can catch all the action online as STAC's own trio of Chris Granozio, Steve Balsan and John Dwinell detail the action and insight on Spartan hoops.
