Spartans Hoops Falls Against LIU-Post, 81-60

The St. Thomas Aquinas College men's basketball team fell against LIU-Post, 81-60 in an East Coast Conference contest at Aquinas Hall. Justin Brown led the Spartans with 14 points but STAC dropped its third straight to fall to 3-13, 3-5. Post retained a share of first place in the ECC, improving to 12-4, 7-1.

The evening got off to a promising start for St. Thomas Aquinas as, after a Tyuan Williams lay-up started things for post, STAC bolted to an 8-3 lead. Post chipped away to regain the lead, but the feisty Spartans were well within range, trailing 29-26 with just under four minutes to play in the first half.

Post would change that quickly, however, as two striaght three-pointers from Jonathan Kohler spurred a 12-4 burst that sent the visitors into the locker room with a 41-30 cushion. The tide would not be stemmed after the break, as the Spartans would close to within 48-38 before the Pioneers embarked on a 15-4 run that would put the game out of reach.

Omar Kellman added 11 points and eight rebounds for STAC, while Vaughn Allen was dominant for Post with a game-high 29 points. Kohler added 18 and Tobin Carberry chipped in with 13 for the Pioneers.

STAC will travel to face Dowling College this Saturday, January 26, before returning to Aquinas Hall next Wednesday, January 30, when Molloy College pays a visit. The East Coast Conference action will tip off with the women's game starting at 5:30 pm, followed by the men's contest.
