Spartans Reyes, Erickson Earn ECC Basketball Player of the Week Honors

St. Thomas Aquinas Men's Basketball player Justin Reyes and Women's Basketball player Jenna Erickson were named the East Coast Conference Players of the Week on Monday following the Spartans' combined 4-0 week on the hardwood.

 

Reyes averaged 27.0 points and 10.5 rebounds per game in the Spartans' wins over Queens College and Molloy College last week. Justin had 22 points to go along with 14 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals at Queens on Wednesday, and became the ECC's all-time made field goals leader. The senior guard/forward then recorded 32 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals against Molloy on Saturday. Justin also picked up career milestone point number 2,000 in the game with the Lions, becoming only the fourth St. Thomas Aquinas College and third ECC Men's Basketball player to do so. On the week, Reyes shot 58.3 percent (14-for-24) from the field and 92.5 percent (25-for-27) from the free throw line.

The 18-4 Spartans begin a stretch of 3 home games in 6 days, beginning Tuesday evening with Queens College at 7:30pm. STAC then returns to action on Friday, February 2nd against Daemen College, also at 7:30pm, before closing out the week on Sunday, February 4th in a 3:30pm contest with Roberts Wesleyan College.

Meanwhile, on the women's side of the ledger, Erickson averaged 16.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game in the Spartans' victories over Queens College and Molloy College last week. Jenna had 17 points to go with her 4 rebounds and 4 assists at Queens on Wednesday evening. The senior guard then recorded 16 points, 4 rebounds and 7 assists against Molloy on Saturday. On the week, Erickson shot 52.9 percent (9-for-17) from the field, 70.0 percent (7-for-10) from the three-point line and 80.0 percent (8-for-10) from the free throw line.

The 17-3 Lady Spartans return to action on Tuesday evening at Aquinas Hall for a 5:30pm match-up with Queens College, before taking on Daemen College on Friday, February 4th at 5:30pm and Roberts Wesleyan College on Sunday, February 4th at 1pm, both home contests as well.
