Reyes Makes Cut to Bevo Francis Award National Finalists

St. Thomas Aquinas College men's basketball senior Justin Reyes has advanced to the final round of candidates for the Bevo Francis Award for Excellence in Small College Basketball. Reyes, the three-time East Coast Conference Player of the Year, is now one of just 13 finalists remaining in contention for the prestigious national honor. See the full release posted below.

2018 Bevo Francis Award Finalists Announced

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – Small College Basketball is excited to announce the 13 finalists for the 2018 Bevo Francis Award, consisting of the finest men’s basketball players in the country who compete in the affiliations of NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, NAIA Division I, NAIA Division II, USCAA and NCCAA.

"As you watch the video of the Finalists for the 2018 Bevo Francis Award, you will see and hear about the remarkable seasons from each of the 13 Finalists. You will hear about highly impressive milestones reached, records broken, awards received, and about remarkable statistical achievements.  

“Our committee has done a tremendous job of research, including background checks, about our Finalists. Clearly, this is a very impressive list of Finalists. On behalf of the University of Rio Grande, Sheward-Fulks Insurance and the entire committee, I would like to congratulate each and every one of our Finalists. There are over 1,100 schools competing at the small college level, and to be among 13 finalists for the prestigious Bevo Francis Award is quite an accomplishment."

Members of the Bevo Francis Award committee include the following University president and coaches: Dr. Michelle Johnston – Rio Grande, Tobin Anderson - St. Thomas Aquinas (N.Y.), Drew Diener - Rockhurst (Mo.), Gerald Holmes - Bloomfield (N.J.), Gary Stewart - Stevenson (Md.), Arlen Galloway - Wentworth (Mass.), Tony Dominguez- Western Washington, Chris Briggs - Georgetown (Ky.), Bill Dreikosen - Rocky Mountain (Mont.), Klint Pleasant - Rochester (Mich.), Ryan Kane - Ripon (Wisc.), Mike McGrath - University of Chicago, Mark Berokoff – Randall (Okla.), Mike Donnelly – Florida Southern, Tony Ingle - Dalton State; Rhett Soliday, Vanguard.

The committee chose this elite group from over 1,100 colleges and universities and took into consideration individual statistics, previous awards, milestones and team success.

This marks the third annual Bevo Francis Award, as the award was previously given to Dominez Burnett of Davenport (Mich.) in 2016 and Justin Pitts of Northwest Missouri State in 2017.

The 2018 Bevo Francis Award winner will be announced on April 2, but for the first time, the award will be presented to the award winner on May 19 at the newly created National Awards Show in conjunction with the SCB Alumni Association’s Celebration of the Game event at the Crowne Plaza in Kansas City, Missouri.
