Cisse, Caraballo Earn ECC Men's Basketball Weekly Awards

St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Basketball players Sekou Cisse and Osbel Caraballo were named the East Coast Conference Defensive Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively on Monday, following the Spartans lone game on the hardwood, a road victory over the University of the District of Columbia (W, 87-64) on Thursday evening.

Cisse netted 18 points and 12 rebounds against the Firebirds. The junior forward from Harlem, NY shot 53.8 percent (7-for-13) from the field and 80.0 percent (4-for-5) from the free throw line. In addition, Sekou picked up 1 assist, 1 steal and 2 blocked shots in the 33 minutes of action.

Meanwhile, Caraballo, the freshman forward from Bolivar, Venezuela, dropped 18 points in the same game Thursday. Caraballo shot 58.3% (7-for-12) from the field and 80.0 percent (4-for-5) from the foul line, while also picking up 2 rebounds and an assist in 19 minutes.

The Spartans (19-5) will now enjoy time off before wrapping up the regular season with four tough games in a span nine days, with three of those at home. STAC squares off with Daemen College on Friday, February 22, at 7:30pm. They then host Roberts Wesleyan for a 3:00 pm tip on Sunday, February 24, travel to Queens on Wednesday, February 27, and close out against Molloy on Saturday, March 2 at Aquinas Hall.
