St. Thomas Aquinas Men's Basketball player Demetre Roberts was named the East Coast Conference Rookie of the Week on Monday, following the Spartans 2-0 weekend on the court, which included two huge wins over Daemen College (75-60) and Roberts Wesleyan College (90-64).
Roberts averaged 13.0 points per game against both the Wildcats on Friday evening and Redhawks on Sunday afternoon. The freshman guard from Mount Vernon, NY shot 46.6 percent (7-for-15) from the field, 44.4 percent (4-for-9) from three and 100.0 percent (8-for-8) from the free throw line. In addition, Demetre picked up 7 rebounds, 7 assists and 2 steals on the weekend.
The NCAA East Region ranked Spartans (#7/21-5 overall record) have two games remaining in the regular season, both in ECC play, starting at Queens College on Wednesday, February 27, with a 5:00 pm tip (note start time). They return to Aquinas Hall for Senior Day on Saturday, March 2, hosting Molloy College for a showdown that could determine a first round tournament bye at approximately 3:00 pm. Senior Day festivities will precede the match-up.
