St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Basketball player Osbel Caraballo was named the East Coast Conference Rookie of the Week on Monday, following the Spartans 2-0 week on the hardwood.
Caraballo averaged 16.5 points and 11.5 rebounds per game in wins at Queens College (75-66) on Wednesday evening and versus Molloy College (77-75) in overtime on Saturday afternoon. The freshman forward from Bolivar, Venezuela shot 55.0 percent (11-for-20) from the field, 50.0 percent (2-for-4) from three and 75.0 percent (9-for-12) from the free throw line. In addition, Osbel picked up 5 assists, 1 steal and 2 blocked shots on the week.
The #6 NCAA East Region ranked Spartans (23-5) hold the second seed and a bye in the upcoming ECC Men's Basketball Tournament. STAC automatically advances to the semifinal round, which, along with the finals, will be held at the Harvey Hubbell Gymnasium on the campus of the University of Bridgeport. St. Thomas Aquinas will play the winner of #3 Molloy vs. #6 District of Columbia (Quarterfinal to be held Wednesday 3/6 at Molloy) on Saturday evening with opening tip scheduled for 7:30pm.
