Former STAC Basketball Captain McNair Assists D.C. Senior Citizens During COVID-19 Pandemic

St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Basketball Alum Jonathan McNair has always been someone who has led by example and put team above self. Whether it was on the basketball court during his time as a Spartan (2013-2015), or now in his Washington, D.C. community.

McNair, a resident of the District of Columbia, traded in his basketball uniform and sneakers for dress shoes and a suit, as he now serves as the Community and Communications Manager for Washington, D.C. Councilmember Kenyan R. McDuffie of Ward 5.

During the on-going coronavirus health emergency, Councilman McDuffie, Jonathan and the rest of the Ward 5 team are partnering with Martha's Table to help feed the senior citizens of our nation's capital. Martha's Table is a nonprofit organization committed to supporting strong children, strong families, and strong communities by increasing access to quality education, health and wellness, and family resources.

To date, Team McDuffie and Martha's table have served over 2,500 hot meals to seniors in just over three weeks.

"In some way we are all feeling the impact of COVID-19. The opportunity to serve senior citizens in my community is an honor", said McNair. "I learned what it means to be a leader during moments of adversity while playing basketball at St. Thomas Aquinas College. STAC basketball showed me that as a leader, I must sacrifice for the greater good of the team and that is what I am doing now for my community."

When Men's Basketball Head Coach Tobin Anderson found out about McNair's service to his community, Anderson remarked, "Jon "Boom" was an incredible captain and teammate for us at STAC. I am not surprised that he is at the forefront of helping others during this difficult time. His positivity, leadership and commitment to helping those in need are what this country and world need right now. We are very proud of him!"
