Top Seed St. Thomas Aquinas Rolls to 110-75 Victory over No. 4 Molloy in ECC Tourney Semi-Final

The St. Thomas Aquinas College men's basketball team was dominant in a 110-75 triumph over Molloy College in an East Coast Conference Tournament semi-final match-up at Aquinas Hall. The Spartans advance to the ECC Tournament Championship game on Sunday, March 7, against No. 2 seed Daemen College in a 1:00 pm tip. STAC will make a Finals appearance for the 7th time in eight seasons, and have won four of the past five championships while Daemen is in search of its first ever conference crown. STAC now stands at 12-1 on the season with Molloy's season closing with a 3-8 mark.

With four days off after playing 12 games in the previous 26, the well-rested Spartans wasted little time jumping on top, as Louis Griffith and Grant Singleton wrapped three-pointers around a Demetre Roberts lay-up to open an 8-0 lead with less than two minutes elapsed. Darren Fergus answered with a trey to get the Lions on the board, but Griffith struck again from deep as a 7-0 burst made the tally 15-3 after under four minutes.

While Molloy righted the ship and trailed by a 27-14 mark midway through the half, Antonio Vendola touched off an 8-0 STAC run and the hosts cruised into intermission with a commanding 57-32 advantage and never looked back.

Seven scorers hit double-figures for the Spartans, with Griffith tying for game-high with 18 points, followed by Singleton (17), Osbel Caraballo (16), Luis Risquez (14), Jamal Barnes (10), and Vasilis Tolias (10) chipping in to contribute to the barrage. Darren Fergus was the standout for the Lions with an 18-point effort, with Pierce Boczar and Pano Pavlidis coming off the bench to add 11 each.

STAC and Daemen split their season series with both games being played at Aquinas Hall, and both are also virtually assured of berths to the NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Tournament, with the field to be announced Sunday night.
