All Five Starters Score in Double Figures As STAC Cruises Past Staten Island, 104-81

Sparkill, N.Y. - All five St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Basketball starters tallied double figures in points, with Lawrence Foreman and Rich Smith also picking up double-digit rebound totals, as the host Spartans cruised past the College of Staten Island, 104-81, on Saturday afternoon at Aquinas Hall.

STAC improves to 15-3 overall and 7-1 in ECC play, while CSI slips to 12-7 and 6-2.

James Patterson led the way for the Spartans, dropping a game-high 28 points, while teammates Kyle Pulliam (18 points), Lawrence Foreman (15 points), Rich Smith (12 points) and Jamal Barnes (11 points) combined with Patterson to score 84 of the team's 104 total points.

STAC shot 49.4 percent (38-77) from the field and 48.1 percent (13-27) from downtown, while CSI shot 41.4 percent (29-70) from the floor and 91.7 percent (11-12) from the free throw line.

STAC NOTES AND HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Nine Spartans logged double-digit minutes in the contest. 
  • Rich Smith led the maroon and gold with seven assists on the afternoon.
  • James Patterson hit 10 of his 22 field goal attempts and went 6-for-8 from the foul line, while Kyle Pulliam went 5-for-13 from the floor, 3-of-6 from long distance and 5-for-6 from the charity stripe.
  • STAC out-rebounded CSI by a 46-37 margin, with Rich Smith grabbing a game-high 11 boards and Lawrence Foreman snatching 10 rebounds for the Spartans. 
  • St. Thomas Aquinas picked up nine steals, with the Dolphins turning the ball over on 13 separate occasions.
  • The Spartans earned advantages in four team statistical categories over Staten Island: Points off Turnovers (20-7), Second Chance Points (26-14), Points in the Paint (42-26) and Bench Points (20-18).
  • The game featured five ties and 13 lead changes.
  • St. Thomas Aquinas took an four-point advantage (46-42) into the halftime locker room.
  • STAC's largest lead of the contest came late in the second half, when Spartans led by 26 points, 100-74.
  • The Spartans scored 58 of the second half's 97 total points.
  • Rich Smith recorded his second double-double of the season (Goldey-Beacom, Staten Island) to go along with his triple-double against D'Youville.
  • Lawrence Forman picked up his first collegiate double-double.

CSI NOTES AND HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Eight Dolphins logged double-digit minutes in the contest. 
  • Bryce Waterman led his team with 27 points, while teammates Aaron Goldstein (14pts), Shemar Latty (11pts) and James "JJ" Chestnut (10pts) also scored in double digits.
  • Chestnut and Goldstein led CSI with five assists apiece on the afternoon.
  • Waterman went 8-for-16 from the floor, 6-of-12 from three and a perfect 5-for-5 from the free throw line. Meanwhile, Goldstein hit 5 of his 9 field goal attempts, with 4-of-8 dropping in from beyond the arc.
  • Messiah Mallory and Chris Clancy each grabbed a team-high six boards for the Dolphins.
  • Staten Island picked up five steals, with the Spartans turning the ball over on eight separate occasions.
  • The Dolphins earned one advantage in team statistical categories over St. Thomas Aquinas: Fastbreak Points (13-5).
  • UDC had its largest lead in the game (six points) at the 18:56 mark of the first half.
