HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Mercy fought back and climbed back into the game, cutting its deficit to just five, 16-11.
  • However, STAC racked up 20 of 24 points over a six minute span to extend the maroon and gold lead to 39-17 with just over six and a half minutes to play before halftime.
  • STAC maintained a 20 plus point advantage through the remainder of the first half and Vasilis Tolias' layup in the final 30 seconds of the stanza gave the hosts a commanding 25-point lead (60-35) at the break.
  • James Patterson led all scorers in the first half with 17 points for the Spartans, while Alex May recorded 12 points for the Mavericks.
  • The maroon and gold continued to score at-will in the second half. A 19-8 streak by the Spartans, with Rich Smith, Kyle Pulliam, Lawrence Foreman, Jamal Barnes, Vasilis Tolias, James Patterson, Ethan Millirons and Luis Risquez all contributing to the stat sheet through the first six minutes of the new frame, put STAC on top by 36 points at 79-43.
  • St. Thomas Aquinas would hit the 100-point mark for the second time this season when Jordan Green would drain a shot from beyond the arc with four minutes to play in regulation to make it 100-65.
  • STAC's largest lead of the game came with 2:13 remaining in the contest, as a Shaun Arnold layup put the maroon and gold up by 37 points (106-69)
  • Green, Arnold, Javion Patterson, Deshawne Crim, Zion Ruckard and Michael Parrotta all saw additional time down the stretch, with the game well in hand. The six Spartans kept the game in check and made the most of their opportunities, as they were able to get defensive stops and score points on the other end of the floor.
