Selection Sunday: #5 STAC Faces #4 Pace in East Regional Opener

The St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Basketball team has earned the #5 seed in the East Regional of the 2025 NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Tournament and will take on #4 Pace University.

St. Thomas Aquinas qualified for its tenth consecutive trip to the field of 64 on the strength of a 23-9 overall record. The Spartans made it to the East Coast Conference Tournament Championship game for the sixth straight season, but were denied a their sixth consecutive title by Daemen University (88-80). Eight bids were awarded in the region with champions from the ECC (Daemen), Northeast-10 (So. New Hampshire), and Central Atlantic (Bridgeport) capturing automatic bids and the others issued on an at-large basis.

The Spartans (23-9, 13-3 ECC) and Setters (24-7, 14-6 NE10) did not play each other during the 2024-2025 regular season and last battled it out on December 16, 2023 at the Ann and Alfred Goldstein Health, Fitness & Recreation Center in Pleasantville, New York. STAC took a 76-69 road decision from Pace. Dating back to their first meeting during the 1986-87 season, Pace leads the all-time series (7 games), 5-2.

First Round games will begin on Saturday, March 15 at top-seed and hosts Daemen University in Amherst, New York. The winner of #5 STAC vs. #4 Pace (7:30 p.m.) will advance to face the winner of #8 Bridgeport vs. #1 Daemen (5:00 p.m.). The other side of the East bracket sees #6 Assumption taking on #3 So. New Hampshire (12:00 p.m.), with #7 Dominican squaring off with #2 Adelphi (2:30 p.m.).
