
Staten Island, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Basketball ran their current win streak to three games on Saturday afternoon, downing the College of Staten Island, 92-64 at the CSI Sports and Recreation Center.
STAC improves to 11-6 overall and 3-2 in ECC action, while CSI falls to 7-10 and 3-2.
Derrick James recorded a game-high 19-point effort for the maroon and gold, while teammates Troy'reon Ramos (15 points), Luis Risquez (13 points), Hartnel Haye (11 points) and Deshawne Crim (11 points) also factored in the Spartans' totals with each scoring in double figures. Meanwhile, Joey Poulin led the host Dolphins in scoring, tallying 15 points.
STAC shot 46.2 percent from the field (36-78), while CSI shot 36.1 percent (22-61) from the floor.
STAC NOTES AND HIGHLIGHTS:
- Eight Spartans logged double-digit minutes in the conference contest.
- Derrick James led the maroon and gold with six assists on the day.
- James hit 7 of his 12 field goal attempts and 4-of-5 free throws. Meanwhile, Troy'reon Ramos went 6-of-11 from the floor, with three of his five shots hitting the mark from distance.
- STAC out-rebounded Staten Island by a slim 40-37 margin, with Luis Risquez and Shaun Arnold each grabbing a game-high seven boards for the Spartans.
- St. Thomas Aquinas swiped 16 steals, with the Dolphins turning the ball over on 25 separate occasions.
- The Spartans earned advantages in three team statistical categories over Staten Island: Points off Turnovers (31-4), Points in the Paint (42-26) and Fastbreak Points (14-11).
- The game featured one tie and no lead changes.
- STAC's largest lead of the game came with just under four minutes to play in the contest, when Spartans led by 32 points, 81-49, on a Tommy Kelly three-point jumper.
- St. Thomas Aquinas held a 38-19 advantage going into the halftime locker room.
- Derrick James led all scorers with 15 first half points for the Spartans, while shooting 67.0 percent (6-of-9) from the floor.
- STAC's best shooting half came in the second stanza, with the maroon and gold hitting 20 of its 36 total shots for a 55.6 field goal percentage and 7 of its 13 three-point attempts for a 53.8 percent rating.
- St. Thomas Aquinas is now 8-1 in games against the College of Staten Island going back to the 1978-79 season. STAC is also now 7-0 in ECC matchups dating back to January of 2022.

- The Dolphins earned advantages in two team statistical categories over St. Thomas Aquinas: Second Chance Points (13-10) and Bench Points (38-32).
- Aaron Goldstein led all Dolphins scorers with five first half points, while shooting 25.0 percent (1-for-4) from both the field and three-point and 67.0 percent (2-of-3) from the free throw line.
- While shooting 50.0 percent (17-of-34) from the floor in the second half, Staten Island was still outscored 54-45 in the stanza.
