Six Spartans Score In Double Figures To Lift STAC Over Post

Waterbury, Conn. - Shaun Arnold was one of six players to score in double figures on Saturday afternoon, as the St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Basketball team won its third straight road contest, an 88-76 decision over Post University at the Drubner Center.

STAC improves to 3-2 on the year, while Post suffers its first loss of the campaign and slips to 3-1.

The aforementioned Shaun Arnold posted a 17-point effort for the maroon and gold, while teammates Tyshon Judge (15 points), Deshawne Crim (14 points) Luis Risquez (12 points), Zion Ruckard (10 points) and Hartnel Haye (10 points) also made significant contributions to the Spartans' totals.

STAC shot 50.7 percent from the field (34-67), while Post shot 49.0 percent (24-49) from the floor.

STAC NOTES AND HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Eight Spartans logged double-digit minutes in the non-conference contest. 
  • Shaun Arnold also led the maroon and gold with four assists on the afternoon.
  • Arnold hit 8 of his 9 field goal attempts. Meanwhile, Deshawne Crim went 5-of-10 from the floor and 3-of-5 from the charity stripe.
  • STAC out-rebounded Post by a 39-24 margin, with Michael Parrotta grabbing a game-high 10 boards for the Spartans.
  • St. Thomas Aquinas picked up 16 steals, with the Eagles turning the ball over on 23 separate occasions.
  • The Spartans earned advantages in five team statistical categories over Post: Point off Turnovers (35-23), Second Chance Points (29-6), Points in the Paint (54-34), Fastbreak Points (24-10) and Bench Points (26-12).
  • The game featured three ties and 14 lead changes.
  • STAC's largest lead of the game came with just over six and a half minutes to play in the contest, when Spartans led by 17 points, 76-59, on a Tyshon Judge layup.
  • St. Thomas Aquinas held a slim 45-44 advantage going into the halftime locker room.
  • Shaun Arnold led the Spartans with nine first half points, while shooting 80.0 percent (4-of-5) from the floor.
  • The Spartans have scored 80 or more points in each of its first five games.
  • STAC took the rematch of last season's NCAA Division II East Region Quarterfinal, where Post scored an 80-72 upset victory over the maroon and gold.

POST NOTES AND HIGHLIGHTS:

  • All eight Eagles logged double-digit minutes in the contest. 
  • Bol Akot led Post with 17 points, while teammates Deng Deang (12 points), Harrison Warnock (12 points), Ta'Quan Williams (12 points) and Robert Sanders (11 points) also recorded double-digit point totals.
  • Akot led Post with five assists on the day.
  • Deng Deang went 5-for-10 from the floor, with Ta'Quan Williams hitting 5 of his 8 field goal attempts.
  • Bol Akot also grabbed a team-high five boards for the Eagles.
  • Post picked up 12 steals, with the Spartans turning the ball over on 21 separate occasions.
  • Post had its largest lead in the game (nine, 28-19) with just under 10 minutes to play in the opening half.
  • Harrison Warnock led all scorers with 10 first half points for the Eagles, while shooting 80.0 percent (4-of-5) from the field.
  • The Eagles went 2-0 against the Spartans in 2023-24, picking up a regular season overtime victory (109-107) and an upset special (80-72) in the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Division II East Regional.
