
Sparkill, N.Y. - Despite receiving 22-point performances from both Tyshon Judge and Troy'reon Ramos, the St. Thomas Aquinas Aquinas College Men's Basketball team was unable to complete its late second half rally, falling to the University of Bridgeport, 101-98, on Tuesday evening in the team's 2024-2025 home opener at Aquinas Hall Gymnasium.
STAC slips back to the .500 mark at 3-3 overall, while Bridgeport improves to 4-1 on the early season.
Spartans Tyshon Judge and Troy'reon Ramos led maroon and gold offense with 22 points apiece, while both Shaun Arnold and Deshawne Crim also scored in double figures with 10 points each. Aliou Cisse led all scorers, dropping 37 points for the visiting Purple Knights.
St. Thomas Aquinas shot 39.3 percent from the field (35-89) and 52.4 percent from distance (11-21), while Bridgeport shot 52.2 percent (36-69) from the floor.
STAC NOTES AND HIGHLIGHTS:
- Nine Spartans logged double-digit minutes in the contest.
- Tyshon Judge, Shaun Arnold, Zion Ruckard and Troy'reon Ramos each led the maroon and gold with three assists on the evening.
- Judge hit 7 of his 17 field goal attempts, while also going 3-of-5 from the three-point line and 5-of-6 from the charity stripe. Meanwhile, Ramos went 8-for-13 from the floor, with six of eight shots sailing through the nets from long range.
- STAC out-rebounded Bridgeport by a 46-41 margin, with Hartnel Haye grabbing a game-high 10 boards for the Spartans.
- St. Thomas Aquinas picked up 13 steals, with the Purple Knights turning the ball over on 25 separate occasions.
- The Spartans earned advantages in three team statistical categories over Bridgeport: Points off Turnovers (35-31), Second Chance Points (28-7) and Bench Points (48-17).
- The game featured six ties and 12 lead changes.
- STAC's largest lead of the contest came with just over three and a half minutes to play in the opening stanza, when the Spartans led by nine points, 39-30 on made three-point jumper by Troy'reon Ramos.
- St. Thomas Aquinas led Bridgeport, 45-43 at the half and shot 34.9 percent (15-of-45) from the field and 50.0 percent (6-of-12) from beyond the arc.
- Troy'reon Ramos led all Spartans scorers with 14 first half points, while shooting 62.5 percent (5-of-8) from the field and 80.0 percent (4-of-5) from the three-point line.
BRIDGEPORT NOTES AND HIGHLIGHTS:
- Eight Purple Knights logged double-digit minutes in the contest.
- Aliou Cisse led all scorers with 37 points for Bridgeport. Teammates Nick Traill (19 points), Jason Edokpayi (14 points) and Caleb Jacobs (12 points) also scored in double figures.
- Jacobs led Bridgeport with six assists apiece on the night.
- Cisse went 14-for-20 from the floor and 8-of-3 from the free-throw line, with Traill hitting 5 of his 8 field goal attempts, 3-of-5 from three-point range and 6 of his 8 free throws.
- Amadou Traore grabbed a team-high eight boards for the Purple Knights.
- Bridgeport picked up nine steals, with the Spartans turning the ball over on 18 separate occasions.
- The Purple Knights earned advantages in two team statistical categories over St. Thomas Aquinas: Points in the Paint (56-46) and Fastbreak Points (26-15).
- Bridgeport's largest lead of the contest (13 points) came in the final three minutes of Tuesday's contest, when the Purple Knights took a 95-82 advantage on a three pointer by Nick Traill.
- Aliou Cisse led all scorers with 20 first half points for the Purple Knights, while shooting 67.0 percent from both the field (8-for-12) and 80.0 percent the foul line (4-for-5).
- As a team, Bridgeport shot 52.8 percent from the floor (19-of-36) in the second half, while outscoring STAC 58-53 in the frame.
