
Sparkill, N.Y. - After suffering a tough defeat on Friday evening, the St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Basketball team got right back to work on Sunday afternoon, taking on D'Youville University at Aquinas Hall Gym. Leading by just five points at halftime, the host Spartans would outscore their opponents 41 to 31 in the second stanza to take a 73-58 East Coast Conference victory from the Saints.
STAC improves to 16-8 overall and 8-3 in ECC action, while D'Youville falls to 6-15 and 4-8.
Hartnel Haye recorded a game-high 18 points for the maroon and gold, while teammate Deshawne Crim (10 points) also factored in the Spartans' totals by scoring in double figures. Meanwhile, Justin Moore tallied 14 points for the visiting Saints.
STAC shot 40.3 percent from the field (27-67), while D'Youville shot 37.3 percent (22-59) from the floor.
STAC NOTES AND HIGHLIGHTS:
- Ten Spartans logged double-digit minutes in the conference contest.
- Derrick James led the maroon and gold with three assists on the day.
- Hartnel Haye hit 6 of his 14 field goal attempts and 6-of-10 free throws. Meanwhile, Deshawne Crim went 3-of-7 from the floor.
- STAC out-rebounded D'Youville by a 53-31 margin, with Haye also grabbing a game-high 12 boards for the Spartans.
- St. Thomas Aquinas swiped eight steals, with the Saints turning the ball over on 14 separate occasions.
- The Spartans earned advantages in four team statistical categories over D'Youville: Second Chance Points (13-6), Points in the Paint (36-28), Fastbreak Points (16-8) and Bench Points (25-16).
- The game featured two ties and four lead changes.
- STAC's largest lead of the game came with just over 13 minutes to play in the contest, when Spartans led by 16 points, 51-35, on a Troy'reon Ramos layup.
- St. Thomas Aquinas led D'Youville 32-27 going into the halftime locker room and shot 40.6 percent (13-of-32) from the field.
- Hartnel Haye led all scorers with eight first half points for the Spartans, while shooting 50.0 percent (4-of-8) from the floor.
D'YOUVILLE NOTES AND HIGHLIGHTS:
- Eight Saints logged double-digit minutes in the contest.
- Justin Moore led D'Youville with 14 points, while Elisha Warren (13 points) also scored in double figures.
- Noah Hutchins led D'Youville with four assists on the afternoon.
- Moore went 6-for-11 from the floor and 2-of-3 from beyond the arc. Meanwhile, Warren went 5-for-11 from the field and 3-of-6 from long range.
- TI Scruggs grabbed a team-high seven boards for the Saints.
- D'Youville picked up 11 steals, with the Spartans turning the ball over on 20 separate occasions.
- The Saints earned one advantage in the team statistical category over St. Thomas Aquinas: Points off Turnovers (15-14).
- Justin Moore and Kevin Thompson each led all Saints scorers with seven first half points. Moore shot 50.0 percent (3-of-6) from the field, while Thompson also shot 50.0 percent from the floor (1-of-2) and went 4-of-5 from the foul line for an 80.0 percent rating.
