
Sparkill, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Basketball team scored early and often on Wednesday evening en route to their fourth straight victory, a 113-76 rout of Molloy University at Aquinas Hall.
STAC improves to 12-6 overall and 4-2 in ECC play, while Molloy falls to 5-11 and 1-4.
Troy'reon Ramos recorded a team-high 21-point effort for the maroon and gold, while teammates Deshawne Crim (16 points), Jordan Green (16 points) and Hartnel Haye (13 points, 12 rebounds also factored in the Spartans' totals with each scoring in double figures. Meanwhile, Rob Matos led the visiting Lions in scoring, tallying a game-high 24 points.
STAC shot 45.1 percent from the field (41-91), while Molloy shot 50.0 percent (28-56) from the floor.
STAC NOTES AND HIGHLIGHTS:
- Ten Spartans logged double-digit minutes in the conference contest.
- Derrick James led the maroon and gold with seven assists on the night.
- Troy'reon Ramos hit 8 of his 16 field goal attempts, with 5-of-11 shots sailing through the nets from long range. Meanwhile, Deshawne Crim went 4-of-7 from the floor, with two of his five shots hitting the mark from distance. He also went a perfect 6-of-6 from the foul line.
- STAC out-rebounded Molloy by a 57-29 margin, with Hartnel Haye grabbing a game-high 12 boards for the Spartans.
- St. Thomas Aquinas swiped nine steals, with the Lions turning the ball over on 21 separate occasions.
- The Spartans earned advantages in four team statistical categories over Molloy: Points off Turnovers (25-8), Second Chance Points (22-4), Points in the Paint (56-38) and Bench Points (51-21).
- The game featured two ties and no lead changes.
- STAC's largest lead of the game came with just over two and a half minutes to play in the contest, when Spartans led by 43 points, 109-66, on a Chris Whyte-Luciano layup.
- St. Thomas Aquinas held a 46-33 advantage going into the halftime locker room.
- Hartnel Haye led all Spartans scorers with 10 first half points, while shooting 62.5 percent (5-of-8) from the floor.
- STAC's best shooting half came in the second stanza, with the maroon and gold hitting 20 of its 43 total shots for a 46.5 field goal percentage.
- St. Thomas Aquinas is now 40-17 in games against Molloy College/University going back to the 1994-95 season. STAC is also now 13-0 against the Lions dating back to January of 2020.
MOLLOY NOTES AND HIGHLIGHTS:
- Nine Lions logged double-digit minutes in the contest.
- Rob Matos led Molloy with 24 points, while Bryce Merchant posted a 16-point effort.
- Matos also led Molloy with four assists on the evening.
- Matos went 8-for-17 from the floor, 4-of-9 from beyond the arc and 4-of-8 from the foul line. Merchant shot 7-of-13 from the field.
- Bryce Merchant and Sey Dieng each grabbed a team-high four boards for the Lions.
- Molloy picked up eight steals, with the Spartans turning the ball over on 13 separate occasions.
- Rob Matos led all scorers with 14 first half points for the Lions, while shooting 62.5 percent (5-for-8) from the field, 60.0 percent (3-of-5) from three-point and 50.0 percent (1-of-2) from the free throw line.
- While shooting 51.6 percent (16-of-31) from the floor in the second half, Molloy was still outscored 67-43 in the stanza.
