In the latest ACHA poll, released on Friday afternoon, the St. Thomas Aquinas College Ice Hockey team was ranked 10th in the Atlantic Region. This follows the Spartans 6-3 start to the 2019-2020 campaign with key victories over Columbia University (10/4/19: 10-9/OT), Stevens Institute of Technology (10/6/19: 5-1), Rutgers University-Camden (10/26/19: 9-4) and Hofstra University (11/8/19: 4-3/SO).
The team is led by freshman Drew Lorenz with 9 goals and 11 assists (20 points), junior Patrick Burns with 7 goals and 11 assists (18 points), junior Shaun Benson with 8 goals and 8 assists (16 points) and junior Luke Broderick with 6 goals and 4 assists (10 points). Meanwhile, on the defensive side of the puck, goaltender Carl Lorenz has a 6-3 record with a 4.46 goals against average and a .903 save percentage, appearing in all nine regular season contests played to date.
St. Thomas Aquinas College (6-3) hosts the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy on Friday, November 15th at Sport-O-Rama Ice Rinks in Monsey, NY. Puck drop is set for 8:30pm, with pre-game ceremonies honoring active and retired United States Military personnel as part of the Spartans Salute to Service night.
