Spartans Pick Up First Conference Win Topping Roberts Wesleyan, 5-4

The St. Thomas Aquinas men's lacrosse team picked up their first ECC win beating Roberts Wesleyan, 5-4 on Monday afternoon.  Briele Caples scored two goals for the Spartans including the game winner and added an assist.  

In a back and forth game that saw three lead changes and four ties; Caples goal with 1:42 gave the Spartans their final lead and lifted them to victory.  Brenton Mighty scored the Spartans first goal of the game off an assist from Caples to tie the game at 1-1 after the 1st quarter.  

The Spartans took their fist lead off Caples first goal, which came at the 10:16 mark in the 2nd quarter.  Brady Martin tied things up for the Redhawks and both teams were even at the break. 

The Spartans outscored the visitors 2-1 in the 3rd quarteroff goals from Tyler Senatore and Joseph Nyemchek.  Nyemchek added an assist as did Luke Madry.  

The Redhawks would not go away quietly as Alex Bianchi scored with 4:15 left in the game to even things up once again and setting the stage for Caples game winner.  Ryan Guild had 14 saves in the win including some key 4th quarter saves.  

The Spartans held a 39-30 shots advantage over Roberts Wesleyan. STAC will return to action on Saturday when they travel to Chestnut Hill for a non conference game.  Game time is set for 3:00 pm.
