Lions Edge the Spartans in Overtime, 12-11

The St. Thomas Aquinas Men's Lacrosse team lost a hard fought overtime game 12-11, against Georgian Court on Saturday afternoon.  Briele Caples led the Spartans with six goals.  

Briele Caples scored the Spartans first goal of the game early in the first quarter.  Georgian Court responded to tie the game with 5 minutes remaining in the quarter. The Spartans dominated the 2nd quarter with four goals to the Lions two.  Tyler Senatore scored twice, while Dewrail Rockett, Jr. added a goal and an assist on another goal from Caples.  

With the Spartans ahead 5-3, both teams exchanged goals throughout the third with the Lions striking first at the 11:42 mark.  Caples answered quickly for the Spartans recording his third goal of the game.  GCU's Brandon Razler added his second goal of the game to bring the Lions within one unitl Senatore scored again for the Spartans giving them a 7-5 lead.  Jefferey Galatola had the final goal of the quarter and his third of the game for the visitors.

The Lions evened things up at the start of the 4th with a goal from Michael Saladino.  Caples put the Spartans back on top with his 4th goal and quickly followed with another goal to give the Spartans some breathing room, 9-7.  The Lions would not go away scoring at the 7:24 mark bringing them back within one.  Caples continued to carry the Spartan offense scoring again this time off an assist from Rockett.  The Lions responded again with 5:37 on the clock coming within one, 10-9 off Galatola's 4th goal.  

Saladino tied the game for the visitors just a minute later but Senatore was able to give the Spartans their final, 11-10 lead with 4:01 remaining.  The Lions scored with a little over a minute remaining to force the overtime session.  Galatola's overtime goal secured the win for the visitors who trailed or were tied for most of the game.  

The Lions held a 44-28 shots advantage over the Spartans as well as 20-7 in face offs.  Ryan Mello recorded 17 saves for the Spartans.  

The Spartans will return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Felician College for a 7:00 pm game.
