Spartan Men's Lax Netminder Ryan Mello Named 2019 USILA All-American

St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Lacrosse goalkeeper Ryan Mello was named to the 2019 United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Division II All-American Second Team, as announced by the USILA on Thursday.

Mello, posted a 6-8 record with a 9.54 goals-against average and a .635 save percentage in 14 starts for the Spartans this past season. Ryan faced 364 total shots on goal for the season and finished his senior season ranked first in the ECC in total saves with 231, which was 74 more than the conference's runner up. His save per game total of 16.5 was tops in the ECC and second in all of Division II. Mello finished second in the nation in save percentage too, after stopping 63.5 percent of the shots he faced. In recognition of this stellar season, Ryan was named the East Coast Conference Goalkeeper of the Year and a First Team All-Conference selection for the second consecutive season, back in early May.

For his collegiate career at St. Thomas Aquinas (2016-2019), Mello made 680 total saves while patrolling the Spartan crease. That includes his milestone 500th save, coming this past season against Felician University on March 20th.
