Mello Records Twenty Saves in Spartans Win Over Hampton, 13-8

The St. Thomas Aquinas men's lacrosse team beat Hampton, 13-8 on Saturday afternoon. Goalkeeper Ryan Mello, who is #1 in the Nation in saves, recorded 20 saves in the win.

Tyler Senatore scored the opening goal of the game and finished with a team high four goals.  The Spartans outscored the guests, 4-3 in the opening quarter with two goals from Senatore and goals from Rob Hornberger and Brenton Mighty.

Mighty added two more goals in the second quarter and finished with three for the game as the Spartans extended their lead 9-6 at the break.  

Four straight second half goals helped secure the win for the Spartans as Senatore added two and Luke Broderick and Kevin Alvora each added one.  Hampton held a 43-37 advantage in shots over the Spartans, but the strong performance of Mello lifted STAC to victory.  

Mello finished the season with 231 saves to lead the ECC.  STAC finished with a record of 6-8 overall.
