Men's Lacrosse Drops 14-3 Decision to Wheeling

Wheeling, W.Va. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Lacrosse team dropped a 14-3 decision to Wheeling University on Sunday afternoon at The Highlands Indoor Turf Complex.

The Spartans move to 1-4 on the season, while the Cardinals improve to 2-5.

How it Happened

  • Wheeling scored the first six goals of the match, as Jake Wodarek (2), Mike Andersson (3) and Jacob Knippel all found the back of the cage in the first 18 minutes of play between the first and second quarters.
  • The visiting Spartans broke the shutout midway through second stanza, courtesy of a Peter Johnson strike to make it 6-1.
  • Mike Anderson picked up his fourth and fifth goals of the contest, just before the halftime buzzer, to give Wheeling a commanding 8-1 advantage through 30 minutes of play.
  • Following the break, the teams traded third quarter goals, with Jake Wodarek scoring his third of the game, before Jeremy Schucker got his first of the day, making it 9-2 Wheeling.
  • In fourth quarter action, the Cardinals outscored the Spartans by a 5-1 margin, with Brody Fawver picking up two goals, Mike Anderson tying the Wheeling single-game goals record with his sixth and seventh tallies on the afternoon and Ty Taylor striking for a goal. Braiden Struss answered for STAC with a goal of his own, but the hosts took the 14-3 victory.
