Sparkill, N.Y - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Lacrosse team renewed its cross-town rivalry with Dominican College on Wednesday afternoon, dropping a 12-9 decision to the Chargers at Spartan Field.
STAC falls to 1-5 on the season, while Dominican improves to 3-3.
How it Happened
- Dominican struck for the first six goals of the contest in 14 minutes of action, over the first and second quarters. Daniel Carson, Kyle Benedetto, Eric Greenwood, William Gordon, Cole Vencak and Terence O'Loughlin all scored for the visitors to give them a 6-0 advantage.
- Jason Beddows and Braiden Struss tallied back-to-back goals for STAC in the final two minutes to play before halftime, cutting the deficit four at 6-2.
- The Chargers got one back immediately following the break via James Conklin, making it 7-2, before Jonathan Farley, Jack Margetson and Jason Beddows all found the back of the cage for the Spartans to pull within two at 7-5.
- However, Dominican would strike twice before the end of the third quarter, with Cole Vencak picking up his second and third goals of the day to increase the DC lead back to four, 9-5.
- A helter-skelter fourth quarter would ensue between the teams, as they combined for seven total goals.
- STAC would score twice to open the frame, with Dominican then getting two of their own. First, Reno Molina and Braiden Struss tallied goals, followed by Kyle Benedetto and Ryan Morris then picking up a pair for Dominican to make it an 11-7 Charger advantage.
- St. Thomas Aquinas put on a furious comeback attempt, scoring back-to-back goals in a span of 32 seconds, as Braiden Struss and Peter Johnson scored to get the Spartans within just two at 11-9 with 2:48 left to play.
- Unfortunately, Angel Rosario would pick up an insurance goal in the closing seconds of the match to preserve the Dominican College victory, 12-9.
