Men's Lacrosse Drops Home Finale with Molloy, 19-6

Sparkill, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Lacrosse team closed out the home-portion of its campaign on Saturday morning, falling to Molloy University 19-6 at Spartan Field.

STAC falls to 5-10 overall and 2-3 in ECC action, while Molloy improves to 8-8 and 3-3.

Ryan Christensen led the Spartans' offense with two goals, while teammates Jeremy Schucker (1 goal, 1 assist), Michael Huff (1 goal, 1 assist), Joseph Casarella (1 goal) and Matthew Drayton (1 goal) also scored for the maroon and gold. Goalie Craig Peavy (L, 5-10) stopped 24-of-43 shots for STAC.

Meanwhile, Molloy was paced by Justin Palulis, who tallied a hat-trick and an assist, while Chris Delaney added two goals and five helpers. Bryan Diliberto (2 goals, 1 assist), Owen Taylor (2 goals, 1 assist), Jack Herzlinger (2 goals), Mikey Rodin (2 goals), Tommy Corcoron (2 goals), Brian Green (1 goal), Michael McClain (1 goal), Noah Taylor (1 goal), and Robert Gazzano (1 goal) also contributed to the Lions' victory on the stat sheet. Goalkeeper Christian Michaels (W, 7-8) stopped five shots in just under 33 minutes of action, before being replaced by teammate John Basile for the final 22 plus minutes of the match. Basile also turned away five shots.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

  • Molloy outshot STAC 54-30 (43-16 on goal) for the game.
  • Ryan Christensen tallied a game-high eight shots, with four going on goal for St. Thomas Aquinas
  • John Morris and Frank Schaefer each gathered five of the Spartans 35 ground balls in the match.
  • Schaefer caused two Lions turnovers on the afternoon.
  • Joseph Longobardo won 5-of-10 faceoffs for the maroon and gold, while Austin Palen was successful on 5-of-17 draws.
  • Molloy led STAC 11-1 at the half and were able to outscore the Spartans by an 8-5 margin over the third and fourth quarters.
