STAC Men's Lacrosse Drops Season Opener To Defending National Champs Adelphi, 22-4

Garden City, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Lacrosse team kicked off its 2025 season by visiting the defending Division II National Champions, Adelphi University on Saturday evening at Motamed Field on Long Island.

Riding a 15-1 halftime advantage, the host Panthers cruised to a 22-4 victory over the Spartans, spoiling the coaching debut of new bench boss Jack Spallone.

STAC falls to 0-1 on the season, while Adelphi improves to 2-0.

Freshman Lucas Mullen led the Spartans' offense with three goals and an assist on the evening, while sophomore Cam Wallace tallied the other maroon and gold goal and also added a helper. Junior goalie Hayden Gaudette (L, 0-1) got the start between the pipes for STAC and stopped 9 of 24 shots faced in the first half, before being replaced by teammate and graduate student Craig Peavy for the 30 minutes of the contest. Peavy turned aside 8 of 15 shots propelled his way.

Meanwhile, Adelphi was led by Michael Durnin, who tallied five goals and added three helpers, while Braden Donnellan added three goals and three assists and Kyle Lewis netted two goals and added two helpers. Ryan Bauco (2 goals, 1 assist), Vincent McDermott (2 goals), Ryan Woodland (2 goals), Noah Gibson (1 goal, 2 assists), Ries Bower (1 goal), William Greaves (1 goal), Charles Cavalieri (1 goal), Stephen Bayer (1 goal) and Luke Mackin (1 goal) added to the totals on the scoreboard for the Panthers. Goalie Dylan Renner (W, 2-0) made three stops on six shots, before being spelled by Aidan Green for the final 15 minutes of the match. Green stopped five of six shots sent his way.
