STAC Men's Lacrosse Opens ECC Play with 20-11 Loss To Roberts Wesleyan

Sparkill, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Lacrosse team opened the East Coast Conference-portion of their 2025 schedule on Saturday afternoon, dropping a 20-11 decision to Roberts Wesleyan University at Spartan Field.

STAC falls to 2-3 overall and 0-1 in ECC play, while Roberts Wesleyan moves to 5-3 and 2-0 on the year.

Cam Wallace led the STAC's offense with four goals and an assist on the day, while Max Benoit and Austin Maybee each struck for a pair of goals for the maroon and gold. Lucas Mullen (1 goal, 2 assists), Nicola Greer (1 goal, 1 assist) and Wilson Ingalls (1 goal) also contributed to the Spartans totals on the score sheet. Hayden Gaudette (L, 2-3) got the start in the cage for St. Thomas Aquinas and stopped 7 of 34 shots faced over the first 42 minutes of the contest, before being replaced by teammate Craig Peavy for the final 18 minutes of play. Peavy allowed two goals on five shots.

Meanwhile, Roberts Wesleyan was led by Chase Wilson, who tallied five goals and three assists, while Cody Coleman scored four goals and added two helpers and Ryan Brown netted four goals and added an assist. Jacob Zimmerman (2 goals, 4 assists), Killian Ceci (2 goals, 1 assist), Sam Keens (1 goal, 1 assist), Gunner MacMillan (1 goal, 1 assist) and Justin Skelly (1 goal) added to the totals on the scoreboard for the Redhawks. Goalie Garrett Kayser (W, 5-3) made five stops on 16 shots sent his way to earn the victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Spartans and Redhawks traded the first six goals of the match, before Roberts Wesleyan scored five straight to take an 8-3 lead early in the second quarter. STAC responded with two consecutive goals to cut the deficit to 8-5, but it was quickly answered with four more goal by the visitors to make it 12-5 Roberts Wesleyan. One final goal by the maroon and gold put STAC down just six at 12-6 going into the halftime break. Once the teams returned from intermission, the sides battled to combine for nine goals with Roberts Wesleyan outscoring St. Thomas Aquinas 5-4 in the frame to hold a 17-10 advantage with one final quarter to play. Roberts Wesleyan opened the fourth quarter with back-to-back-to back goals to put themselves ahead, 20-10. STAC added one final tally in the closing moments of the contest to narrow the deficit and loss to nine at 20-11.
