Men's Soccer Starts Season with a 2-2 Tie

Jones Ties Career Scoring Record

The STAC men's soccer team traveled to Bloomsburg, PA yesterday for the first game of the season.  The Spartans got on the board first with a goal by senior Gerald Jones.  Back and forth goals between the two teams ended the game in a tie.

Jones's goal at 26:27 marked the 15th goal of his career which moves him into a tie for first place on the all time* scoring list.  The record was previously held by Steven Ocampo who graduated last season. 

Bloomsburg's Eric Simmons tied the game at 1-1 with a goal early in the second half.  The Spartan's retaliated with a goal by newcomer Edgar Barrigan, who's first collegiate goal came at 74:12.

The Spartans held on to the 2-1 lead until the Huskie's Christian Rota scored with less then two minutes remaining in regulation time.  The game went into double overtime in which neither team scored ending the decision in a tie.

Freshman goalie Andrew Tartara recorded four saves in his first outing for the Spartans.

The Spartans will return to action on Saturday when they travel to Southern New Hampshire for a 1:00PM kick off.  This game will be available to view online in real time.  See links below...
