Spartans Drop Close One to Bridgeport

Mielcarek Scores His First Career Goal

The St. Thomas Aquinas men's soccer team lost a hard fought game on the road against the University of Bridgeport Purple Knights.  The Spartans fell 2-1 after Brett Mielcarek scored the first goal of the game just five minutes into action.  With the loss the Spartans drop to 6-3-2 while the Knights improve their record to 11-2-0 and remain undefeated in conference play.

Mielcarek, a sophomore out of Sugar Loaf, NY scored the goal off a free kick by sophomore Chris Hernandez.  The goal however was not enough to earn a victory over the Knights who are ranked 8th in the East Region (NCAA Div II Poll).  The Spartans continued with their strong defensive play only allowing two goals despite the fifteen shot attempts.  STAC goalkeeper Andrew Tartara, who was back after missing a game due to injury, recorded three saves in the contest.

The Spartans will face the Golden Lions of Dowling College who are 4-0 in conference play on Wednesday as they seek their first conference win.
