Spartans Put Up Tough Fight Against #2 Regionally Ranked Dowling

STAC Falls to Undefeated Dowling in Conference Play

The St. Thomas Aquinas men's soccer team lost a tough battle against the Golden Lions of Dowling College yesterday afternoon.  The Spartans were unable to capitalize on their seven shot attempts falling to a score of 2-0.  "This was the closest we have played Dowling in years and although it was a loss, it was a great testament to our young team and the future of our program," commented Head Coach Graham Brown.

Dowling, who are regionally ranked and undefeated in the ECC, scored twice in the first half before they were shutdown by the strong Spartan backfield for the remaining 65 minutes of play.  The Spartans have had consistency in their defense this season holding opponents to 2 or fewer goals in every game but one as well as recording four shut-outs this season.

Freshmen Andrew Tartara recorded five saves for the Spartans.  Seniors Gerald Jones, Andres Gomez and Steve Rozycki have shown steady leadership for the Spartans throughout the season.

STAC will be back in action for a home event this Saturday as they face C.W. Post in search of their first conference win.  The game is slated for 3:00 and will be following the Lady Spartans who kick off at 1:00.
