Men's Soccer Earns First Victory Over Felician

STAC Earns Win in Jones's Record Breaking Game

The STAC men's soccer team picked up their first win in Wednesday afternoon's home opener against Felician College.  Senior Gerald Jones scored three goals in route to the 6-1 victory.  With his first goal, Jones became STAC's all time goals leader since the school moved to NCAA Division II.  Jones currently holds the record with 18 goals for his career thus far.  Christopher Hernandez, James Earl and Remington Lee also scored for the Spartans.

Jones's first goal came five minutes into the game when he headed in the goal off a cross pass from junior Jon Michael Nabais.  Shortly after that Jones was delivered a pass from sophomore Renan Lopes into the center of the field just outside the box where his shot deflected off the hands of Felician goalie Paulo DosSantos and landed in the goal.

Sophomore Christopher Hernandez followed up with STAC's third goal of the game at 22:18 off a deflected save by DosSantos.

Felician retaliated when Carlos Canido chased down a long ball off an indirect kick from Juan Licht which put him in good scoring position to knock in the Golden Falcons lone goal of the game at 27:30.

STAC striker James Earl scored the fourth goal for the Spartans with less then five minutes to go in the first half.  Earl's goal came off a great passing sequence from Jones out wide left to Remington Lee who crossed it over to Earl for the shot on goal.

In the second half, the Spartans continued their attack, scoring once again off a solid cross from Konstantinos Sapountzis to Lee who headed in the goal.  Shortly after, Jones finished up the scoring with one last header into the net off a cross from Lopes for his second assist of the game.

STAC received strong defensive play from senior Steven Rozycki and junior Jesse Trajkovski who battled away much of the Golden Falcons attack.  Freshmen goalies Andrew Tartara and Nicholas Croce had solid outings in goal for the Spartans recording one save each.

STAC will return to action this Saturday as they take on cross town rival Nyack College at 3:30pm.  The game is the second of a double header following the Lady Spartans versus Nyack at 1:00pm.
