Spartan's Hot Streak Continues

STAC's Jones Continues With Hot Foot

The STAC men's soccer team kept their winning streak alive with a 2-1 victory over visiting Goldey Beacom.  The Spartans were led by their top scorer, senior Gerald Jones.  Strong defensive play by the Spartan's back field continues to ward off opposing attackers.

The Spartans have out scored their opponents 13-7 since the start of the season and 11-2 in their last three wins.  Solid play by backfielders Steven Rozycki, Jesse Trajkovski, Christopher Hernandez and Edgar Barrigan have limited opponent looks on goal.  Freshmen goalie, Andrew Tartara had another strong outing recording a season high ten saves against Goldey Beacom.

Jones leads the Spartans with seven goals on the season and has scored in all but one game this year.  Jones scored both goals for the Spartans.  The first one came eleven minutes into the game off a long pass from Hernandez which Jones kicked into the far corner of the goal.  Jones followed with his second goal twenty four seconds later after receiving a pass from senior captain Andres Gomez.  Jones tapped the ball past the Lightning defender and shot it into the net.

The Spartans were able to hold off the Lightning offense, which took 10 shots on goal, for the majority of the game.  Goldey Beacom continued to play aggressive down the stretch and was able to connect on a goal with forty seconds remaining in the game.  Kacim Amid scored the goal for the Lightning off a pass from Kwame Appiah.

The Spartans look to continue to improve their 3-1-1 record on the road for their next two games as they travel to Briarcliffe College(NY) and Chestnut Hill College(PA).  Their next home game is scheduled for September 24th against Bloomfield.
