Spartans Upend Mercy in Record Breaking Season

Spartans Top Mavericks 3-1 on Senior Day

The St. Thomas Aquinas men's soccer team beat Mercy 3-1 in this afternoons contest.  The Spartans won their 8th game of the season which is the most wins under head coach Graham Brown in his six year tenure.  The 8 victories also mark a season high for the men's soccer program since the school moved to NCAA Division II.   Sophomore Renan Lopes scored two goals in the second half to secure the win.

Junior Jon Michael Nabais continued where he left off in Saturday's win over Concordia, putting the Spartans on the scoreboard first.  Nabais scored with 12 minutes remaining in the first half off an assist by senior Andres Gomez.  The Mavericks retaliated shortly after with a goal of their own ending the first half tied at 1.

Lopes scored the game winning goal with 7:25 remaining in the game off an assist by Giuseppi Chiarelli.  He followed with a second goal at 5:21 to help secure the win.  The Spartans are now 8-5-3 on the season with one game remaining as they travel to NYIT on Wednesday.

The Spartans recognized seniors Gerald Jones, Andres Gomez and Steven Rozycki in a pre-game ceremony for all their hard work and accomplishments over the past four years.  Jones will finish his career as the schools all time leader in goals.*
