Early Goal Not Enough for Spartans

The STAC men's soccer team lost 2-1 to Queens College in their first conference game of the season.  The Spartans who have been on a hot streak for the past three weeks got off to a strong start in the first half outshooting the Knights 13-3.  STAC freshmen James Earl's goal at 35:33 put the Spartans up 1-0.

Earl scored by heading the ball into the goal off a well placed free kick by senior Steven Rozycki.  The goal marked Earl's fourth of the season but was not enough for the Spartans to claim the victory.  Queens junior Jonathan Guenzatti scored in the second half to tie the game up at 1.

Strong defensive play continued by both teams in the second half forcing the game into overtime.  Three minutes into the overtime period Queens striker Noorullah Mashriqi scored off a cross from Amir Perelman ending the game 2-1 in favor of the Knights.

The Spartans (6-2-1) who are coming off a three game week will have a chance to rest and regroup before traveling to the Dist. of Columbia a week from today.
