Spartans Hold Off Knights for 3-2 Win

The St. Thomas Aquinas men's soccer team beat Queens College in this afternoons game.  Renan Lopes scored the first goal for STAC with a little over one minute remaining in the first half off an assist by William Miller.  Lopes leads STAC with five goals for the season.  Daniel Davren and Remington Lee also scored for the Spartans as they knocked off the Knights, 3-2.

Davren's goal came at the forty minute mark after a shot was deflected off the cross bar recovered and knocked in past the keeper.  The freshman also added an assist on the next goal which ended up being the game winner as Lee kicked it past Julio Rodriques.  Davren has a team high five assists for STAC while Lee picked up his first goal of the year. 

Queens Danny Stoker scored a goal at 38:58 to bring them within one, 2-1.  Mohammed Mashriqi scored the second goal for the Knights with ten minutes left in the game but it was not enough as STAC held on for the win. 

The Spartans had fourteen shots; five coming from Lee and four from Lopes.  STAC's defense worked hard to limit Queens looks at goal.  Nicholas Croce had six saves for the game.  STAC moves to 2-4 in the conference and will play Nyack at home on Friday at 3:30.
