Bridgeport Outlast Late Spartan Attack

The St. Thomas Aquinas men's soccer team lost a 2-1 game to the University of Bridgeport this afternoon.  STAC went down 2-0 before freshman Daniel Davren connected on a long goal from outside the box.  The Spartans rallied hard in the final minutes of play outshooting Bridgeport 4-1 in the final minutes of the game.  James Earl had the assist on Davrens goal.  Sophomore goalie Nicholas Croce had four saves.

In a hard fought contest both team played a strong defensive battle going over 65 minutes without a goal.  STAC had five shots to the Purple Knights three in the first half.  Davren had three shots on goal including multiple long throw-in's that put pressure on the Bridgeport backfield.  The Spartan offense continued to pressure throughout the entire second half as Chris Hernandez, Peter O'Malley, Remington Lee and Edgar Barrigan each had good looks on goal. 

Croce and the STAC defense limited the Purple Knights to six shots on goal.  Mike DiBartolomeo scored the first goal for Bridgeport as his ball was deflected by Croce and hit off a defender and into the net.  Mario Izaguirre scored what ended up being the game winning goal with under twelve minutes remaining. 

The Spartans will be back in action on Saturday as they host NYIT at North Rockland Soccer Association.  Game time is slated for 1:00 PM.
