Spartans Rally to 1-1 Tie

The St. Thomas Aquinas men's soccer team tied Assumption College in today's non conference game.  Sean Reilly scored off a free kick just outside the box to tie the game at 1-1.  Andrew Tartara had 8 saves in the game.

The Greyhounds goal came from Justin Pugliese at the 25 minute mark.  Pugliese scored off a corner kick from Jeffery Swan.  The Spartans rallied and scored a goal in each half that were taken back by offsides calls.  STAC continued to put up a strong fight down to the final minutes of play.  Reilly's goal came with 4:34 left in the game as his kick split through defenders at the goalie who bobbled it into the goal. 

The Spartans dominated most of the overtime periods and had numerous attempt at the goal but fell short.  Daniel Davren had 4 shot attempts for the Spartans.  Chris Hernandez and David Cowpar had a strong defensive game for STAC.  Tartara had two key saves in overtime to help STAC hang on for the tie.

STAC moves to 6-0-1 and will play at Queens on Saturday at 2:30 PM.
