Spartans Blast Clippers, 7-1

The St. Thomas Aquinas men's soccer team beat Concordia College 7-1 in their home opener.  Daniel Davren led STAC with 2 goals and 2 assists as the Spartans move to 3-0.  Andrew Tartara had 5 saves for the Spartans.

STAC got on the scoreboard immediately as  Davren scored his first goal in the opening minute off an assist from Renan Lopes.  Senior Peter O'Malley added a goal at the 36 minute mark off an assist from Sean Reilly.  Reilly followed with a goal of his own off a Davren assist.  Davren scored his second goal with a little over six minutes left in the half to give STAC a 4-0 lead at the break. 

The Spartans continued their strong play into the second half as Marcin Rebisz scored his first collegiate goal at 38:57.  The Clippers got on the score board as Michael Fantozzi scored Concordia's lone goal with 35 minutes left to play.  Joe Connolly and Remington Lee rounded out the scorers for STAC as they knocked in goals late in the half. 

Chris Hernandez and David Cowpar helped lead the Spartan defense as they held Concordia to 9 shots.  The Spartans will travel to St. Michael's for a two game tournament as they take on the host on Saturday at 12:00 noon.  STAC will then play St. Anselm on Sunday at 10:00 am.
