Bears Second Half Goals Top Spartans, 2-0

The St. Thomas Aquinas men's soccer team lost to NYIT, 2-0 on Monday afternoon.  NYIT score two second half goals including one in the final minute of action to beat the Spartans and knock them out of an ECC play off spot.  Andrew Tartara had 2 saves for the Spartans.  STAC had 15 shots, 5 on goal to the Bears 21 and 4.

Junior Daniel Davren finished the regular season with a team high 22 points and a team high 8 assists to go with his 7 goals.  Senior Remington Lee had a team high 8 goals for the season. Sean Reily and Joseph Connolly each added 16 and 15 points respectively for the Spartans. 

The Spartan defense behind the efforts of seniors Kurt Schuler, Edgar Barragan and William Miller held STAC opponents to limited shots on goal.  Andrew Tartara recorded 60 saves this season and had 5 shutouts. 

The Spartans finish the regular season with the fewest losses since the program moved to NCAA Division II at 10-3-4.  STAC finished in 5th place in the ECC with a record of 2-3-2.  The Spartans have been regionally ranked for the whole season and were Nationally ranked in the beginning of October and continued to receive votes Nationally. 

The Spartans finished the regular season ranked 4th in the East Region, giving them a chance to advance to the NCAA regional tournament for the first time in program history.  STAC's post season will be determined later in the week following conference play offs.
