Men's Soccer Falls, 2-1 at University of Bridgeport

The St. Thomas Aquinas College men's soccer team scored a second-half goal to tie the score but came up short at the University of Bridgeport, 2-1. The Spartans now fall to 2-5-2 overall and 1-3-1 in the East Coast Conference, with Bridgeport improving to 7-4-0, 5-0-0.

Just minutes into the contest the scoreless deadlock would be broken by the hosts. Off a Bridgeport corner kick, a failed clear allowed Andreas Blanke to find the net after just 2:46 of play. Scoring chances would be sparse for the remainder of the half with the teams tying at five shots apiece, but Purple Knights keeper Augustin Prados was forced to make four saves, including a diving stop on a Brian Flynn header in the 26th minute.

STAC took just over 10 minutes after the break to even the score, as Daniel Davren send a cross that was finished by Michael Corbi to draw the visitors even at 55:08. Bridgeport wasted little time in regaining the edge, as Clayton Ulmer headed home the go-ahead marker off a corner kick from Daniel Augenstein at 68:27.

Bridgeport outshot STAC by an narrow 12-10 margin overall, with Prados recording five saves and Spartan goalkeeper Andrew Tartara credited with two. UB also held a 5-2 advantage in the final corner kick tally.

The Spartans return to action this Saturday, October 6, when they travel to Long Island to take on NYIT. The contest was originally scheduled at home but was moved due to poor field conditions. Game time for the men's contest is slated for 2:30 pm as the back end of a double-header featuring the women's teams, starting at noon.
