Men's Soccer Topped, 4-1, at #3 Ranked in Nation LIU-Post

The St. Thomas Aquinas College men's soccer team put out a game effort against the team ranked #3 in the nation in the NSCAA Coaches poll, but a second half surge propelled LIU-Post to a 4-1 decision. Post improves to a perfect 9-0-0 on the season and 4-0 in the East Coast Conference, while the Spartans fell to 2-4-2, 1-2-1.

Post wasted little time getting on the scoreboard as Johan Wallin collected a rebound and hit the net just 4:56 into play. If the Spartans were intimidated by facing one of the best teams in the country, they didn't show it as Brendan Flynn converted the equalizer from Joseph Connolloy just 47 seconds later.

The hosts did manage to put the pressure on, outshooting STAC by an 18-7 margin, but the game remained tied at the half on the strength of goalkeeper Andrew Tartara's nine saves. The play continued in that direction in the second stanza until Pioneer Andreas Olson converted a cross from Cemil Turin to give Post a 2-1 edge.

With the visitors on their heels, Post made no mistake, as Per Forgaard (72:44) and Eirik Bjoernoe (75:44) tallied in short order to put the affair out of reach. Post held a convincing advantage on the shot board by a 35-12 margin, while Tartara was stellar in making 15 saves in the loss. Post's Marco Jorgensen made four saves to preserve the win.

STAC will face another tough ECC test when they travel to the University of Bridgeport this Wednesday, October 3, before they are scheduled to return home on Saturday, October 6 to host NYIT.
