The St. Thomas Aquinas College men's soccer team battled from a second half deficit but had to settle for a 1-1 tie at Roberts Wesleyan in the first ever East Coast Conference meeting between the two schools. The Spartans had their three-game winning streak snapped, but they remain unbeaten in their last five games (3-0-2). STAC now stands at 5-5-4 overall and 2-3-3 in the ECC, with Roberts now at 6-8-1, 3-4-1.

Both teams battled through an evenly-played scoreless first 45 minutes, with STAC outshooting the hosts by a narrow 6-5 margin. The Redhawks wasted little time hitting the net after the break, however, with Donovan Wilson emerging from a crowd to head one past Spartan netminder Andrew Tartara at 48:10.

STAC battled back to tie the score at 56:33 when Daniel Davren made no mistake on a penalty kick opportunity. While Roberts Wesleyan had a convincing 12-3 advantage in shots in the second half, both teams had opportunities but were unable to find the net. After an exciting 20 minutes of overtime, both sides settled for the draw, thanks largely to Tartara's eight saves, as STAC was outshot, 19-13. Redhawk netminder Michael Scavone was not credited with any saves over the full 110 minutes.

The Spartans will now enjoy the next week off before wrapping up the season next Saturday, October 27, in an ECC contest against Mercy College. The Senior Day event will start at approximately 2:30 pm, and will be played at Eugene Levy Park.
