Second Half Outburst Lifts STAC Men's Soccer to 3-1 Win at Holy Family

The St. Thomas Aquinas College men's soccer team snapped a four-game skid with three second-half goals in a 3-1 victory at Holy Family University. Jack Legg, Michael Wagner and Michael Corbi scored for the Spartans who improved to 5-6-1 with the non-conference win, while Holy Family fell to 5-9-1 overall.

Neither team was able to establish much momentum in a scoreless first half with HFC holding a narrow 8-6 shots edge, though STAC netminder Aiden Tansey was called upon to make four saves in the first 45 minutes.

STAC finally broke the scoreless deadlock on Legg's first goal of the season in the 59th minute, as he converted a rebound off a Corbi shot to put the visitors in the lead. Wagner then converted an assist from Yohan Loyer to give the Spartans a seemingly comfortable 2-0 lead at the 66:42 mark.

Holy Family was not quite done, however, with Kevin McCollick scoring on a rebound at 77:21 to draw the Tigers to within 2-1. Any hopes of a comeback were quickly dashed just two minutes later, when Corbi's shot from outside the penalty area found the top corner of the net, providing the Spartans with the final margin of victory.

Tansey made four saves in earning his first collegiate victory, while his counterpart Nick Aglira also made four stops in absorbing the loss. The Spartans outshot the hosts by a 16-14 margin.

The game was the final road contest of the year for St. Thomas Aquinas as they will now play their final four games of the year at Spartan Field. STAC hosts Molloy College in an East Coast Conference showdown this Saturday, October 26, starting at 2:30 as the back end of a double-header, featuring the women's teams kicking things off at 12:00 noon.
