STAC Men's Soccer Falls to Roberts Wesleyan, 3-2

The St. Thomas Aquinas College men's soccer team fell to Roberts Wesleyan College, 3-2, in an East Coast Conference contest at Spartan Field. Ethan Evans, Robert Stevens and Rob Hirt were honored in pregame Senior Day ceremonies. The Spartans fell to 6-8-1 overall, 4-5-0 in the ECC, with Roberts improving to 4-10-2, 2-6-1.

STAC charged out of the gate and grabbed control early, with Michael Corbi taking Jack Legg's feed and finding the net just 17 seconds after the opening whistle. Roberts would battle back, however, with Michael Cunningham's marker at 11:37, and Johnny Lobene putting the visitors in front at 20:28.

Legg would waste little time responding, as his tally at 22:07 tied the score once again, completing the early flurry of goal scoring for the remainder of the half. The Redhawks carried the advantage in shots for most of the day and it paid off with Derek Holmes' game-winner on a header at 62:47.

Nathan Mangione turned aside 13 shots in the STAC net, with Florian Witte making eight for the visitors. RWC led in shots for the afternoon by a 32-20 margin.

The Spartans close out the 2013 season in an East Coast Conference tilt against Daemen College on Sunday, November 3, at 12:30 at Spartan Field.
