STAC Men's Soccer Falls Short to Bloomsburg in Opener, 1-0

The St. Thomas Aquinas College men's soccer team played the first game ever on the new Spartan Field but the advantage wasn't enough as Bloomsburg University rode a second half goal to a 1-0 decision.

Both teams battled through an even 45 minutes, with each having scoring opportunities before settling for a scoreless deadlock at halftime.

Bloomsburg wasted little time jumping on top after the break, as Spencer Conrad's blast from outside the box sailed perfectly into the top corner beyond the helpless reach of Spartan netminder Nathan Mangione.

With the visitors carrying more of the second half play, chances were few for the hosts in the second half, who ended up being outshot 14-9, with Mangione recording five saves and Huskies' goalkeeper Bernie Roell stopping four to pick up the shutout. The game was the first of the season for both team.

The Spartans return to action this Sunday, September 8 as they take another shot at grabbing their first Spartan Field victory when the University of New Haven visits for a 3:00 pm start. If you can't make it to the game, be sure to follow the game in real time with our brand new Live Stats feature.
