Men's Soccer Playoff Hopes Dashed as STAC is Stopped at Bridgeport, 3-1

The St. Thomas Aquinas College men's soccer team dropped its final East Coast Conference game of the season, a 3-1 decision at the University of Bridgeport. Ken Caraballo recorded the lone tally for the Spartans, who now stand at 7-6-2 overall, with a final ECC mark of 4-6-0. Bridgeport improved to 5-9-0, 4-5-0 with the win.

Despite dropping their first five ECC contests, the Spartans pulled together to win their next four straight and hope remained at earning one of the four slots for the upcoming conference tournament.

Bridgeport was intent on playing spoiler, however, with Jordan Gerald scoring the lone goal of the first half at 12:23, though the visiting Spartans held a narrow 7-6 edge in shots in the session.

Caraballo's first of the season gave his team hope at the 53:00 mark, with the junior converting a feed from Michael Corbi and his header finding the net to tie the score.

With time winding down, it was the Purple Knights who found the answer, with Luka Ivanovic breaking the tie at 75:47, and Simon Haakaanson adding the backbreaker at 80:37. Anthony Palumbo made four saves in the STAC net, with UB netminder Agustin Prados credited with three.

The Spartans will close out their 2014 season with a home contest on Saturday, November 1, as Caldwell College pays a visit to Spartan Field for a 1:00 pm start.
