Spartans Men's Soccer Settles for 1-1 Tie After Late Equalizer

The St. Thomas Aquinas College men's soccer team remained undefeated on the season, playing to a 1-1 tie at East Stroudsburg University. Laurie Child netted the lone tally for STAC, which improved to 1-0-2 overall while East Stroudsburg saw it's record stand at 1-2-1.

Both teams battled to an evenly-played scoreless first half deadlock, which saw shots tied at 8-8 and Spartan netminder Nicholas Palumbo and ESU's JB Pahls turn aside four shots each.

STAC took charge after the halftime break, with Child recording his first goal of the season at the 52:55 mark. The Spartans dominated the second half, outshooting the Warriors by a 13-2 count and accounting for all six corner kicks in the session, but were thwarted when Christian Bukowski found the equalizer at 73:27.

East Stroudsburg was credited with the only two shots of the 20 minutes of scoreless overtime, with STAC holding a 21-12 margin for the game. Palumbo made six saves in all while Pahl turned aside eight shots.

After playing their first three games of the season on the road, the Spartans will play their Home Opener on Wednesday, September 17, hosting NYIT in a big East Coast Conference showdown. Kickoff is set for approximately 4:30 pm, as the back end of a double-header featuring the women's teams, which will start at 2:30.
