Post Rally Hands STAC Men's Soccer 3-2 Defeat

The St. Thomas Aquinas College men's soccer team suffered a 3-2 East Coast Conference road defeat at the hands of LIU Post. Laurie Child and Michael Wagner tallied for the Spartans, who fell to 1-2-2 overall and 0-2 in ECC play on the season, as Post improved to 4-2-0, 1-0-0.

Scoring chances were hard to come by in a tightly played first half, but the Spartans made the most of theirs. In only the eighth minute, Patryk Seweryn sent Child alone on goal and the defender's chip into the net put STAC in an early 1-0 lead.

Post knotted the score at 31:34, when Harry Pearse's corner kick was headed in by Dale McDonald. The Spartans would rally again just before the end of the half, when Wagner converted a penalty kick at 39:58, giving the visitors a halftime edge despite trailing in shots by a 10-4 margin.

Johannes Forgaard would tie the game on a cross from McDonald at 54:03 to once again tie the contest, and McDonald again would prove to be a factor in the deciding goal, as Eivind Austboe headed his cross home at 62:37 for the deciding marker.

Spartan netminder Nicholas Palumbo made five saves on the afternoon, as his STAC squad was outshot by a 20-5 overall margin.

The Spartans travel to face the University of New Haven on Wednesday, September 23, before returning home to meet Dowling College on Saturday, September 27 in a 2:30 start as the back end of a double-header with the women's teams.
