Corbi Goal Leads Men's Soccer to 3-2 Comeback Win at New Haven

The St. Thomas Aquinas College men's soccer team rallied from an early 2-0 deficit for a 3-2 victory at the University of New haven. Michael Corbi's tally proved to be the winner for the Spartans, who improved to 2-2-2 overall with the non-conference win, while UNH dropped to 1-5-0.

New Haven wasted little time taking the lead, with Andres Torres converting his fourth goal of the season on an assist from Bobby Cruz just under five minutes after the opening whistle. The Chargers looked to be in control early when Louis Tambini scored at 22:43, with the helper credited to Will Richard, putting the hosts in a 2-0 advantage.

STAC did not let UHN stay comfortable for long, as less than five minutes later, Julius Werner recorded his second of the year. Laurie Child providing the assist, trimming the maring to 2-1, where it would remain until halftime.

Duncan Kasibante knotted the contest at 49:48 with his third goal of the campaign, and the Spartans were back in business, tied at 2-2. That would set the stage for Corbi's heroics, as his goal at 64:25 was the deciding tally.

After a tough start, STAC goalkeeper Nicholas Palumbo would hold firm the rest of the way, as he was credited with five saves on the afternoon. Counterpart Marc Scelsa turned aside six STAC shots, as the Spartans held an overall 16-14 edge in shots on the day.

The Spartans return home this Saturday, September 27, for an East Coast Conference showdown with Dowling College at Spartan Field. The game will start at approximately 2:30 pm, after the conclusion of the 12:00 noon contest between the women's teams.
