Fast Start Powers STAC Men's Soccer to 3-2 Victory at St. Rose

The St. Thomas Aquinas College men's soccer team scored early and often before holding on for a 3-2 triumph at the College of Saint Rose. Michael Corbi's goal was the difference in STAC's first win of the season as the Spartans stand at 1-0-1, dropping Saint Rose to 0-2-1.

Just 31 ticks into the game, the Spartans were on the board first, touching off a wild first half. Julius Werner took a touch from Yohan Loyer and hit the net with STAC's first goal of the season. Just over eight minutes later, Duncan Kasibante recorded his first collegiate goal off a perfect free kick to put the visitors up by a pair.

Corbi put the Spartans up by three at the 13:10 mark, converting a failed clearing attempt, and STAC appeared ready to cruise to an easy victory.

Saint Rose would answer later in the half, however, posting a pair of quick markers to draw to within 3-2. Kledis Caporalli scored his second of the season at 34:44, marking the first goal allowed by Spartan goalkeeper Nicholas Palumbo in over 144 minutes this season. It took just over three minutes for the Knights to add another, with Joshua Hanif converting a cross to pull the hosts to within one.

Surprisingly, after a frantic start, neither team would hit the board for the remainder of the game, with Palumbo tallying three saves for his first win of the year, with STAC outshooting Saint Rose by a 15-9 total on the night.

The Spartans close out their season-opening three-game road swing at East Stroudsburg University on Saturday, September 13, in an 11:00 am start. Their Home Opener will be an East Coast Conference showdown against New York Institute of Technology on Wednesday, September 17. Kickoff time is slated for approximately 4:30, as the back end of a double-header featuring the women's teams, starting at 2:30.
